ゲイブ：そしておまえは１３、１４、１５になる。孤児院、グループホーム、里親の家のかび臭い部屋。１７になるまでにそれらを全部経験した。いつかの時点でお前は人の感情を読み始めた。自分の感情は自分のものじゃない。自分には何もない。誰もいない。お前はひとりだ。

Then you’re thirteen. Fourteen. Fifteen. Orphanages, group homes, musty rooms in the strange houses of foster parents. By the time you’re seventeen, you’ve seen them all. Somewhere along the line, you start to feel things. Your own emotions don’t belong to you. You have nothing. No one. You’re alone.

ゲイブ：向き合う必要があるんだ。

アレックス：何に？　誰も私を選ばなかったことに？

See what? That nobody picked me?

 

ゲイブ：誰もお前を選ばなかった。誰もお前を望まなかった。おふくろは死に、親父は出奔、俺は逃げ出した。お前は家族を繋ぎ止めることができなかった。

Nobody picked you. Nobody picked you. Nobody wanted you. Mom died. Dad left. I bailed. You couldn’t keep us together.

でもこれまでだ。親父に怒ったっていい。おふくろを思って泣いてもいい。俺にだって怒れよ。だけど諦めるな。誰もお前の価値を語ることはできない。そして誰もお前の人生は奪えない。戦え！
