クラウド：バレット。マリンは無事だ。エアリスがマリンを見つけた。

Barret. Marlene’s fine. Aerith found her.

 

バレット：エアリス？　ヤツらが捕らえたあの娘のことか？

Aerith? Is that the girl they took?

 

ティファ：うん。彼女がエアリスだよ。

Yeah. That’s her.

 

バレット：何がどうなってるんだ？

The hell’s going on!?

 

ティファ：私がエアリスにマリンを探してどこか安全な場所に連れて行くように頼んだの。

I asked Aerith to find Marlene and take her somewhere safe.

 

バレット：で、彼女はそうしてくれたのか？　そうなのか？ おい、どこに行く？ どこに行くんだって聞いてんだ。

And she did? You sure!? Hey! Where you going!? I said—where you going?

 

クラウド：エアリスの家だ。伍番街スラムにある。

Aerith’s house. It’s in the Sector 5 slums.

 

バレット：そこにマリンがいるのか？

And that’s where Marlene is?

 

クラウド：そうだといいがな。

Where we hope she is.

 

バレット：そこにいると言えよ！　何かすがりつけるものを俺にくれよ！ マリンがそこにいなくてもお前を責めやしねぇ、約束する！ なんてな。マリンがいなかったらお前の頭を引きちぎるぜ。

Tell me she is! Give me something to hang on to! Even if she’s not. I won’t blame you for it, I swear! Who am I kidding. I’d probably try to tear your head off.

 

■hang on to (phrase) to continue to grasp or hold sth/sb（フレーズ）～にしっかりつかまる、～にしがみつく

■Who am I kidding (phrase) An expression of self-doubt（フレーズ）～なんて言うのは冗談で、～なんてね（そんな事あるわけない）

■tear off (phrase) to separate by tearing（フレーズ）ひきちぎる

 

クラウド：なあティファ。“古代種”について何か知ってるか？

Hey, Tifa. Know anything about “Ancients”?

 

ティファ：聞いたことはあるけど。

I know I’ve heard of them at least.

 

バレット：星命学の本に出てくるぜ。星に仕えるとされている者たちだ。星と交流することもできたとか。話しをしたりとか。

They come up in planetology books. Meant to be the original stewards of the planet. Could even “commune” with it. Talk to it and stuff.

 

■planetology (n) the branch of science that deals with planets （名）惑星学

■be meant to be (phrase) ～する運命だ、～である［になる］ことを目的としている、～であるべきだ

■steward (n) a steward is sb who has the responsibility for looking after property（名）世話をする人

■commune (v) to get very close to sb/sth by exchanging feelings or thoughts（動）心を交わす、親しく語り合う

■and stuff (phrase) used to say that there are other things similar to what you have just mentioned, but you are not going to say what they are（フレーズ）～など、～とか

 

クラウド：それでタークスがエアリスを必死で手に入れようとしてたのか。

That must be why the Turks wanted her so badly.

 

セフィロス：私の血管には古代種の血が流れている。この星は・・・わたしが受け継ぐのだ。

お前はまた守れなかったようだな。だが苦痛を通してお前は強く成長するだろう。それがお前の望みだろう？

Within my veins flows the blood of Ancients. This planet…is my birthright.

You have failed again, I see. But through suffering, you will grow strong. Isn’t that what you want?

 

■vein (n) a tube that carries blood（名）血管

■birthright (n) sth that you believe you deserve to have（名）生まれながら持つ権利、当然与えられるべき権利

 

ティファ：クラウド？

Cloud?

 

クラウド：何でもない。行こう。

It’s nothing. Let’s go.
