英語字幕・日本語訳 (Episode 4: Dark Room 暗室 Part 2)

クロエ:本当にさ、癇癪を起こすこともあるんだ。特にお尻を拭いてもらうために排便するのを看護師に見られている時とか、医者が人形みたいに私の体をひっくり返す時とか・・・。

Trust me, I still get my rage on. Especially when a nurse has to watch while I take a dump, so she can wipe my bum. Or when doctors flip me around like I was a science doll…

■rage on (phrase) to get an erection out of anger(フレーズ)荒れ狂う

■take a dump (phrase) to defecate(フレーズ)排便する

■bum (n) the part of the body that you sit on (名)〈英・卑俗〉尻、けつ

■flip around (phrase) to turn around(フレーズ)ひっくり返す、180度転換する

マックス:想像できない・・・でも、それでもクロエはスゴイよ。子どもの頃からずっとスゴかった。

I can’t even imagine… But you’re still amazing. You always have been since we were kids.

クロエ:ホント、来てくれてありがと。マックス・・・飲み物を・・・水を持ってきてくれる?

Thanks again for coming, Max. I, uh…need to get my drink on. Can you bring me some water?

マックス:さあ、飲んで。

Drink up, buttercup.

*Drink up, buttercup. ←”Buttercup” is there just to make it rhyme. No meaning “Buttercup” itself.

「up アップ」で韻を踏んでいるだけで「buttercup」に特に意味はない。

*エピソード1でも「Have a seat, Pete.」というセリフがありましたが、これも「seat シート」と「Pete ピート」で韻を踏んでました。もちろん「Pete」には特に意味はなく、単なる言葉遊びです。

クロエ:ああ・・・そりゃ声もかれるよね。こんなにしゃべったの久しぶりだもん。

Oh man, no wonder my throat is dry. I don’t think I’ve talked this much the whole year.

■No wonder (phrase) it is not surprising(フレーズ)~も不思議ではない、道理で~なわけだ

マックス:ポッドキャストとか何かをやってみるとかは?

Have you ever thought about doing a podcast or something?

クロエ:もう、マックスの顔面にパンチしてやれたらいいのに。ポッドキャストだって? 私は「cast ギプス」に入れられた身動き一つしない「pod 繭」だってのに。つまんないね。

I wish I could punch your face right now. A podcast? Dude, I am a pod in a cast. Boring.

Ouch. It was just a thought…

クロエ:分かってるよ、力になろうとしてくれているだけだって。

I know you’re just trying to help.

マックス:うん、でも余計なおせっかいだったね・・・

Yeah, that’s become a bad habit of mine…

クロエ:大人みたいなセリフ。子どもの頃は遠い昔だね。

You sound like an adult now. It seems like we were kids in another life.

マックス:クロエは子どもの頃っていったら何を覚えてる? それぞれ違うこと覚えてるよね・・・。

What do you remember about us as kids? We all have different memories…

クロエ:海賊ごっこしながら町中走り回ったことかな。

I think about us as little pirates, running and jumping through Arcadia Bay.

マックス:私も。今でも海賊スピリットは忘れてないよ。

Me too. But, we’re still pirates in our own way.

■in one’s own way (phrase) In a manner that is unique to oneself(フレーズ) 自分なりに、独自のやり方で

クロエ:ああ、そうだね。”カリブ海のクロエ”だーってね。はは、今じゃ船に乗り込むなんてありえないね。マックスが一緒にいてくれない限りはさ。

Uh, yeah, right. Check me out, “Chloe of the Caribbean.” No way will I get on a fucking boat now. Unless you’re with me.

■Check me out. (phrase) Look at me. (フレーズ)私を見てよ。

マックス:私、そばにいなかった・・・。ダメなやつだよね。でも過ちは正すから・・・。

I know I wasn’t around much. No excuses, I’m a loser. But, I am trying to make things right.

クロエ:どうやって? スーパーマンじゃないんだから。マックスに罪悪感を抱かせたいわけじゃない。それはパパとママの仕事だ・・・。

How? Dude, you’re not Super Max. And I’m not trying to guilt-trip you. That’s what my parents are for…

■guilt-trip (v) to make sb feel guilty, usually in order to make them do sth (動)(人)に罪悪感を抱かせる

マックス:ジョイスおばさんとウィリアムおじさんはスゴイよ。

I think Joyce and William are incredible.

■incredible (a) impossible, or very difficult, to believe(形)信じられない、信じ難いほど素晴らしい

クロエ:あの事故がふたりに重くのしかかってるんだ。医療費はメチャクチャかかるのに、保険は役に立たないし。

Max, the accident has been so hard on them. Our insurance sucks and the medical bills are fucking insane.

■suck (v) (slang) If sb or sth sucks, that person or thing is bad or unpleasant(動)(俗・軽蔑的〉最悪である、非常にむかつく

■medical bill (n) statement of charges for medical services(名)医療費

■insane (a) extremely unreasonable or stupid(形)〈話〉常軌を逸した、バカげた、愚かな

マックス:だよね。このハイテク設備、とんでもなくお金かかってるよね。

I bet. This tech must be crazy expensive.

クロエ:薬代も看護師を雇うお金もかかるから・・・うちの親はいつも破産状態ですごく悩んでる。・・・こんな金かける意味あるのかな?

Along with the drugs, the nurses, the supplies… Mom and Dad are always broke and they get so frustrated… Is it worth it?

■broke (a) without money(形)〈話〉無一文の、金欠の

■worth (a) having a particular value(形)~の価値がある、~のかいがある

マックス:クロエはプライスレスだよ。あ、駄じゃれのつもりじゃなくて。

Chloe, you’re priceless. Uh, no pun intended.

■priceless (a) having such a high value, especially because it is rare, that the price of it cannot be calculated(形)値段が付けられないほど価値のある

■pun (n) a humorous use of a word or phrase that has several meanings or that sounds like another word(名)駄じゃれ、語呂合わせ

■no pun intended (フレーズ)しゃれを言うつもりではなく

*クロエの名字は「プライス」なので、「クロエ・プライス」と「クロエはプライスレス」でだじゃれっぽくなっています。

クロエ:さえないなぁ。だからマックスのこと好きだよ。あたしも人の事言えないけど。

You are such a geek. That’s why I love you. Of course, I know a geek when I be one.
