ティファ：思った通りに動いたね！　よかった。

エアリス：これで通り抜けられるよね。

ティファ：よかった。さあ、外に行こう。待って・・・。

エアリス：女の子？

A girl?

 

ティファ：マリン？

Marlene?

 

 

マリン：でね、黒い風に連れていかれた子たちは列車墓場でずっと、ずうっと暮らさないといけないの。だからそこにはぜーったいに近づいちゃダメなんだよ！

…And…the kids that the black wind carries away have to live in the train graveyard forever and ever! So you have to stay far, far away from there!

ティファ：ウェッジ、お願い。クラウドに任せて。

Wedge, please. Let Cloud handle it.

 

エアリス：心配しないで。彼の手当てはするから。

クラウド：ウェッジ、聞くんだ。ふたりと一緒にここにいろ。

ビッグス：いよいよご登場だな、雇い兵。おまえさんが主役の座をかっさらう前に、花道の掃除をしておかないとな。

‘Bout time you showed up, merc. Gotta do my part to clear the path before you steal the show.

クラウド：ビッグス！

ビッグス：やったな・・・けど、俺はダメだな。なあ、ウェッジは・・・

You made it…though…I might not. Hey. Is Wedge…

 

クラウド：心配するな。ウェッジはすぐに回復するさ。

Don’t worry. He’ll bounce back.

 

■bounce back (phrase) 1. rebound 2. to return to your usual state or activities after having a problem（フレーズ）1. 跳ね返る、2. 立ち直る、回復する

 

ビッグス：それは・・・良かった・・・。俺も（跳ね返すために bounce back）腹に詰め物でもしとけばよかったのにな・・・。

■padding (n) the pieces of material used to protect something or give it shape（名）詰め物、当て物

 

＊クラウドの使った「bounce back」には「回復する」の他に「跳ね返る」という意味があります。当然クラウドはウェッジが大丈夫だと伝えるために「回復する」という意味で使ってますが、ビッグスは「ウェッジのポヨンポヨンのお腹で跳ね返って大事にならない」という風に「跳ね返る」という意味をすりかえて「俺も詰め物しときゃよかった」とユーモアで返してます。ここのやり取りは秀逸ですねぇ。

 

クラウド：しゃべるな。

Don’t talk.

 

ビッグス：上が・・・ヒドイことになってる。クラウド、頼む、無駄にさせないでくれ。

It’s…pretty bad up there. Cloud. Promise me. Don’t let it be for nothing.

 

クラウド：させないさ。

I won’t.

 

ビッグス：おまえ、いいヤツだよな。そんなふうに俺を安心させてくれてさ・・・。

ああ、もう一つ。リーフ・ハウスってのがあって、孤児院なんだ。伍番街のスラムだ。そこにいるガキはイイ子たちで・・・よく訪ねて行ってたんだが・・・

You’re a good man. Giving me that…that comfort.

Oh. One more thing. The Leaf House. It’s an orphanage. In the…Sector 5 slums. The kids…they’re great. I used to visit—
