アレックス： 里親制度は私には地獄だった。初めての里親の家で、その家の年上の男の子に風呂までつきまとわれだの。だから押しのけたらその子が怒って。私も怒って。それで彼の鼻を折ってやった。それが私が１４の時。

Growing up in the system was hell. In my first foster home an older boy followed me into the bathroom, so I pushed him out. He got angry. So did I. Then I broke his nose. I was 14.

アレックス： ２番目の里親の家では、子供のうちの一人が自殺しちゃって。一か月は食事がのどを通らなかったな。５番目のとこでは引き取られて数週間で鬱みたいになっちゃったからさ、新しい里親に入院させられたんだ。その里親とはそれっきり会うことはなかった。

In the second home, one of the other kids committed suicide. I couldn’t eat for a month.

After a couple weeks in the fifth home, I got so depressed that my new parents sent me to a hospital. I never saw them again.

Yeah. I carry it with me everywhere. When I got out, I went through the last few matches real quick. Obviously. But…I could never bring myself to use the last one. It reminded me how bad life got. And how much better I was gonna make it.

 

アレックス： なんてお礼を言っていいか・・・。

I don’t know what to say…

 

ゲイブ： いいって。

この町に来て、シャーロットに出会って、これは現実かって信じられないくらいだったぜ。それまでずっと地獄だったから・・・。でも今は違う。お前だって同じようにできる。新しい人生をスタートさせるんだ。お前は地獄から抜け出してきたんだ。前に進む時だ。

When I found Haven, and Charlotte, I couldn’t believe they were real. Everyghing before was such hell. Now It’s different. You can do the same. Start a new life. You made it out of the system, Alex. You survived. It’s time to move on.

ライアン： そうなんだけど、でもさっきから姿が見えなくてさ。

He was. But I haven’t seen him in a while.
